BMF members explore the growing climate risks facing Bradford manufacturers and opportunities to build greater resilience.
Climate adaptation is moving rapidly up the agenda for manufacturers.
Thank you to JBA Consulting for hosting a really useful online drop-in session and for coordinating BMF’s evidence response to West Yorkshire Combined Authority's Climate Change Risk & Vulnerability Assessment this week.
The discussion and contributions created an interesting story of how Bradford Manufacturing Futures (BMF) members are experiencing and responding to climate change risks across Bradford, including:
Hot weather events (and extended heatwaves),
Intense storms, including the effects of heavy rainfall and high winds,
Surface water flooding, and
Supply chain stress.
Climate resilience is often framed as an environmental issue. For BMF members it is also a business continuity, staff welfare, infrastructure, and competitiveness issue.
During the drop-in session, we learned about adaptation challenges facing manufacturers in other parts of the UK and started to explore some of the opportunities for climate adaptation and resilience-focused knowledge sharing across BMF members. We agreed that this would be a valuable topic for future BMF webinars and shared learning.
